Vanessa is an experienced calm, compassionate child & adolescent counsellor experienced in schools, children's charities, private practice and online settings.
Vanessa is an accredited counsellor and former Pastoral Lead & Safeguarding Officer who has worked with children, young people and their families for over 20 years in schools, children's charities, private practice and online settings. Previous clients describe Vanessa having a warm, nurturing, fun personality that helps her to make young people feel at ease and to build strong relationships with them.
She works with a range of issues which include anxiety, loss, behaviour and emotional regulation, self-esteem, depression, friendships, neurodivergence and attachment. Vanessa is passionate about helping young people to build their emotional resilience and autonomy. In her spare time she enjoys being in nature, gardening, cooking and dancing. She loves animals especially dogs.
Building a trusting relationship is Vanessa’s priority, she believes therapy should be as individual as we all are, so matches her approaches to each person's needs to help them feel heard, supported, and confident in managing their feelings.
She may help them find practical solutions to problems, manage negative and worrying thoughts by restructuring them and taking back control; or work creatively to express their emotions. She provides a compassionate, nurturing, non-judgemental space where they can talk openly about their experiences, helping them to understand, process and move forward.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Transactional analysis
Examines the patterns and roles we fall into when relating to others, and how to change them.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
