May is a highly experienced counsellor, who supports children and teenagers with their emotional wellbeing.
I am a qualified counsellor, registered with BACP. My training specialises in supporting children and adolescents, with which I have extensive experience, including complex trauma; having worked in both Primary and Secondary Schools for a number of years. I’m empathic and accepting of all.
No young person should have to go it alone. Counselling allows the opportunity for the young person’s voice to be heard.
Early intervention through counselling support, can help the young person make sense of what is going on in their minds, bodies and lives.
This in turn, may also have a positive impact on the young person’s relationships, friendships with peers, confidence, academic learning, coping mechanisms, self-regulation and resilience.
It is important to take the counselling sessions at the young person's pace. allowing them to feel safe and be able to tell their story,
Every behaviour is often a communication of an unmet need and when we identify and meet that need, often we see change in the behaviours.
Allowing the young person to explore difficulties in the safe space of their counselling session, can allow them to find coping strategies and build resilience for moving forward.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
Psychodynamic
Explores how earlier experiences and relationships shape how a young person feels and behaves today.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Play therapy
Helps children express and work through feelings using play, their natural way of communicating.
