Roisin is a Child & Adolescent Therapist (MBACP) and Certified Play Therapist with seven years’ CAMHS experience, supporting children and young people aged 5–18.
Roisin has over seven years’ experience working in NHS CAMHS, supporting children, young people and families across community and crisis services, alongside developing her private practice. She is also a Certified Play Therapist and has extensive experience working with children with additional needs. She commonly supports young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, trauma, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, friendship difficulties and challenges associated with autism and ADHD. Outside work, she enjoys travelling, Pilates, spending time with family and friends, and taking care of her ever-growing collection of plants.
Roisin uses play and creative therapy, alongside CBT-informed and trauma-informed approaches. Sessions might involve games, drawing or characters to express feelings and experiences that are hard to put into words, or becoming a "thought detective" to understand worries. For difficult experiences, sessions might imagine carrying a backpack full of heavy rocks. Rather than emptying it all at once, Roisin helps the young person gently take out one rock at a time, at their own pace, so the backpack gradually feels lighter and easier to carry.
Play therapy
Helps children express and work through feelings using play, their natural way of communicating.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Narrative therapy
Helps young people retell the story of their difficulties in a way that separates the problem from who they are.
