Child & Adolescent Counsellor
BACP · MBACP · No. 385306
Works with ages 16+
Val has worked with children all her life: as a nursery nurse, primary school teacher and now as a therapist. This experience allows Val to connect quickly with her clients.
With a bubbly energy and a naturally warm heart, Val is a person-centred counsellor dedicated to supporting children and teenagers. Known for bringing a gentle sense of humour into the therapeutic space, Val creates an environment where young people feel truly safe, seen, and heard.
Val operates from the core belief that every client is far more than the challenges they are currently facing. By focusing on the whole person rather than just the "issue," Val empowers young people to rediscover their strengths and navigate life’s hurdles with newfound confidence and resilience.
How we’ll work together:
Person-Centred: You’re in the driver’s seat. I won’t judge you or tell you what to do. We’ll just talk through whatever is on your mind at your own pace.
Solution-Focused: We won’t stay stuck in the heavy stuff. We’ll look at what’s already working for you and brainstorm small, real-life steps to get you closer to the life you want.
Integrative: Everyone is different. I mix and match different tools—like talking, drawing, or coping hacks—to build a session that fits you perfectly.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Transactional analysis
Examines the patterns and roles we fall into when relating to others, and how to change them.

Over 20 years experience of working with and supporting young people.
