Bethy is a warm, caring therapist who helps children feel understood and supported, bringing empathy and over 20 years of lived family experience.
Originally from France, Bethy (pronounced Betty) spent 14 years as a primary school French teacher before training as therapist. As a mum to children with autism and ADHD, she also brings over 20 years of lived family experience, giving her a deep understanding of the joys and challenges many families face. Bethy supports children with anxiety, emotional regulation, school struggles and EBSA, neurodivergence, bereavement, illness and family changes. Using person-centred play therapy and creative approaches, she helps children explore their feelings in ways that suit them. Parents often describe Bethy as warm, calm and easy to talk to, valuing the trusting relationships she builds with both children and families.
Bethy builds each session around the child, taking time to get to know them and what helps them feel comfortable. Some children express themselves through play, art or stories, while others prefer talking or simply spending time together. Bethy follows their pace, helping them make sense of their feelings, understand why things can feel difficult and find ways to manage big emotions. As trust grows, children can explore challenges such as anxiety, school worries, family changes or neurodivergence in a way that feels right for them, discovering their own strengths along the way.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
Play therapy
Helps children express and work through feelings using play, their natural way of communicating.
Attachment-based
Explores how a young person's closest bonds shape how safe and secure they feel with others.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Psychodynamic
Explores how earlier experiences and relationships shape how a young person feels and behaves today.
