Debbie is a warm and caring practitioner who uses her experience as a Primary School Teacher and her therapeutic skills to help young people feel safe and understood.
Debbie is an experienced psychotherapist whose been practising since 2012. She qualified during her 30 years teaching in the primary sector, where she was given the opportunity to develop a specialist role supporting children with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. Her work focused on areas including anger management, emotional regulation, and communication, always providing children with a safe space to express themselves without judgement.
Debbie uses an integrative approach, tailoring her practice to meet the unique needs of each individual. Her approach can be described as calm, friendly, and compassionate.
Areas of support include: anxiety and stress, depression, school-related challenges, relationships, bereavement, trauma, ADHD and autism support, and anger management.
Debbie's introductory sessions are based on a person-centred approach, providing a safe, warm space to build trust. Depending on the young person's needs, other sessions might be based around the exploration of art, to help unlock deep feelings that words can't express, or mindfulness, to help build calmness and deeper self-awareness.
Techniques such as CBT may be used to examine particular mindsets and behaviours and to initiate any changes required. The integrative approach uses different tools to enable young people to gain deep insight, emotional strength, and lasting personal growth.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Transactional analysis
Examines the patterns and roles we fall into when relating to others, and how to change them.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
Attachment-based
Explores how a young person's closest bonds shape how safe and secure they feel with others.
Narrative therapy
Helps young people retell the story of their difficulties in a way that separates the problem from who they are.
