Mandy is a warm, compassionate counsellor with experience supporting children and young people in schools, colleges and online settings.
Mandy is a counsellor with over 30 years’ experience supporting children, young people, adults, and parents of children with special needs or disabilities, including their siblings. Mandy has previously worked as a parent carer, and—proudly—a Mum and now also a Nana. Clients often describe Mandy as calm, kind and approachable with a nurturing presence, she helps clients feel safe, heard, and understood. She has experience with a wide range of issues including anxiety, self-harm, anger management, trouble attending school and low self-esteem. Mandy supports clients in schools and colleges, online and also adults navigating life’s challenges in her private practice. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dogs, listening to music, being by the sea, and spending time with her family.
Mandy works using an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic approaches and techniques rather than one method. She tailors counselling sessions to each individual, which may include person-centred therapy to create a safe, accepting space; CBT to support healing and growth; psychodynamic approaches to explore how past experiences may shape the present; and compassionate, non-judgemental listening. These are just some of the approaches she may use, as there is no one-size-fits-all approach and sessions are adaped to what works best for each individual person.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Psychodynamic
Explores how earlier experiences and relationships shape how a young person feels and behaves today.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
