Works with ages 11 – 15 · 16+
Sam is a calm, approachable child and adolescent counsellor, experienced in supporting young people aged 11+ with anxiety and self-esteem.
Sam is a qualified child and adolescent counsellor who has been working in therapy for seven years, supporting young people aged 11 and up. Before moving into one-to-one counselling, Sam spent years working therapeutically with young people through horses, building a calm, patient, and grounded presence that naturally puts clients at ease. Clients and families often describe Sam as warm, relatable, and easy to talk to. Sam works with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, friendship difficulties, low self-esteem, self-harm, and eating struggles, helping young people feel understood and in control of their lives. In spare time, Sam enjoys horse riding, water sports, and beach walks to relax and recharge.
Sam works relationally and integratively, meaning building a trusting, comfortable connection always comes first. From there, sessions are shaped around what the young person needs. Sam often draws on CBT-informed tools to help young people understand difficult patterns, explore negative thoughts around body image or worry, and break them down into manageable steps. When working through intense feelings or self-harm, Sam focuses on safe, practical ways to manage distress while offering a non-judgemental space to build long-term confidence and self-worth.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
