BACP · Accredited · No. 380160
Works with ages 11 – 15 · 16+
Helen is a calm, compassionate child and adolescent counsellor, experienced in school, college and online settings.
Helen is an accredited counsellor and former primary school teacher, and has worked with children and young people for over 20 years. Clients often describe her as calm, compassionate and easy-going. Helen has experience counselling in school, college and private settings and works with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, friendship difficulties, low self-esteem and trouble attending school. She also has extensive experience supporting neurodivergent clients. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, listening to music and watching movies.
Helen works relationally meaning the relationship comes first, built on trust, humour, and a shared language for what's going on. From there she takes her lead from what the young person needs. Some want structure and a plan; others need space to let everything out. When structure helps, she uses solution-focused strategies: working out which problems feel biggest and taking them in order, or reworking the negative thoughts that feed anxiety. When a gentler pace is right, she leads with compassion, listening without judgement and asking questions that might help them see things differently.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Psychodynamic
Explores how earlier experiences and relationships shape how a young person feels and behaves today.
Attachment-based
Explores how a young person's closest bonds shape how safe and secure they feel with others.
