Kelly is a calm, empathetic child and adolescent counsellor, experienced in school and online settings. Working with children and young people of all ages.
Kelly is a registered counsellor, and a former mental health co-ordinator and mental health trainer. She has worked in a range of settings, including schools and health & wellbeing organisations. Kelly has worked with children & young people of all ages online and in person. She has also worked within a rapid response suicide prevention counselling service and
private counselling services.
Kelly works with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, school & friendship issues, OCD, self-harm, suicidal ideation, bereavement, and family issues. She has extensive experience of working with neurodiverse clients.
In her spare time Kelly enjoys family life with her husband and two adult children, walking her dogs, watching live music and dancing.
Kelly uses a warm and empathetic approach, building trust within the therapeutic relationship. She understands each person needs to go at their own pace. She works to ensure the child or young person feels comfortable. For those who need space to talk and explore their emotions, Kelly ensures this is how the session is focused. For others, they may prefer a more structured approach, and when this is the case, Kelly follows a plan allowing solution-focused strategies to be facilitated. Exploring which issue should be prioritised, at a pace that suits each child or young person.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Attachment-based
Explores how a young person's closest bonds shape how safe and secure they feel with others.
Transactional analysis
Examines the patterns and roles we fall into when relating to others, and how to change them.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
