BACP · Accredited · No. 700709
Works with ages 6 – 10 · 11 – 15 · 16+
BACP Accredited child and young person's therapist with 10+ years' experience supporting anxiety, low mood, trauma, self-esteem and school-related difficulties.
Julia is a BACP Accredited child and young person's therapist with over 10 years' experience working across the NHS, private practice and specialist mental health services. She specialises in supporting children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, trauma, self-esteem and school-related difficulties. Sessions are tailored to each young person and may include talking, creative activities or play, depending on their age and what feels most comfortable. Having worked with children and young people throughout her career, Julia values creating a safe, supportive space where they can explore difficult feelings at their own pace while working collaboratively with parents and carers where appropriate.
Julia works integratively, drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches to meet each young person's individual needs. Sessions may include talking, creative activities, play, CBT strategies, mindfulness or practical coping tools, depending on the young person's age, goals and preferences. She works collaboratively, helping children and young people understand their emotions, develop confidence and build strategies they can use beyond therapy.
Integrative
The therapist draws on several approaches, adapting to what suits each young person rather than following one method.
Person-centred
The young person leads the conversation while the therapist listens without judgement, helping them find their own way forward.
CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)
Practical, structured work on the patterns of thinking and behaviour that keep problems going.
Psychodynamic
Explores how earlier experiences and relationships shape how a young person feels and behaves today.
Humanistic
Focuses on growth and potential, treating the young person as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
Solution-focused therapy
Short-term work that concentrates on goals and strengths rather than analysing problems.
Mindfulness-based
Uses present-moment awareness to help young people relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings.
Compassion-focused therapy
Helps young people be kinder to themselves, particularly if they struggle with shame or self-criticism.
Trauma-informed
Works at the young person's pace with an understanding of how difficult experiences affect the mind and body.
Art and creative therapies
Uses art, music or movement to express and explore feelings that are hard to put into words.
Play therapy
Helps children express and work through feelings using play, their natural way of communicating.
Attachment-based
Explores how a young person's closest bonds shape how safe and secure they feel with others.
